Project Details and Background

The County of Huron, in partnership with the Municipality of Bluewater and Municipality of South Huron, is heading into Phase 2 of the Reconstruction of County Road 83 (Dashwood Road) including the replacement of storm sewers, watermain and water services. Construction of Phase 2 is anticipated to start in April 2025. The project area includes County Road 83 through Dashwood, Centre Street east to the East Urban Limits.

The project will be completed in two Phases.

Phase 1 of the County Road 83 (Dashwood Road) Reconstruction project was completed last year by Van Bree Enterprises.

Construction of Phase 2 will take place in 2025. B. M. Ross and Associates from Goderich are the engineers for the project. Construction work is anticipated to commence in early April (if weather permits).

Dashwood Road is a full reconstruction project, including removal and replacement of the storm sewer system (Municipal Drain) as well as service connections to the property line. Information related to the private drain connections was provided last year. The project also includes installation of a new watermain and water service connections to the property line of buildings fronting the work. The road will be fully rebuilt with new curb and gutter, paving and new sidewalk. Disturbed asphalt or concrete surfaces will be restored with similar materials. Lawn areas will be restored with topsoil and sod.

Pre Construction Survey

Prior to the construction project starting a preconstruction survey will be completed. VAN BREE Enterprises have retained OZA Inspections Ltd. to complete the preconstruction survey on the existing properties. The survey is to include all buildings (inside and out) to verify existing conditions. They will start by delivering letters to assist with these inspections. This will be coordinated between the property owner and this firm. This survey is to be completed to document pre-construction conditions of the properties to allow a comparison of conditions should a claim arise as a result of the contractor’s works. It is in everyone’s best interest to allow the inspection to occur.

Traffic and Access

Please note that the speed limit has been reduced to 30 kph through the construction zone.

Traffic will be maintained through the construction zone but there will be lane restrictions for the contractor to complete the installation/ replacement of the existing infrastructure. Where possible driveway access will be maintained. There will be times that driveway access will be restricted or closed. The contractor will notify the affected properties.

Garbage and Recycling during Construction

Garbage and recycling should be set out for collection at the normal time and location. Your waste and recycling bins should be marked with the civic address as the constructor may need to carry them to the end of the street and return them if his work operations are blocking access for the collection vehicle.

This is an intrusive construction project, and your patience and cooperation are appreciated.
