This project is funded by the Government of Canada.

It involves the replacement of culvert 31-32.1 which is located on County Road 31 (Sharpes Creek Line), 1.0km South of County Road 15 (Londesboro Road). The existing structure is a 2.9m span CSP round culvert which conveys the Devries Municipal Drain, built in 1975.

Due to the poor condition of the culvert, replacement is recommended. Following hydrology and hydraulic investigations a precast box culvert with a span of 3.3m and height of 3.6m was proposed. The new culvert will provide an 80 year service life and will improve hydraulic capacity. The culvert ends will have cut-off walls and precast retaining walls to reduce future erosion and undermining of the structure. In addition to the culvert replacement, the 3-cable wood post guiderail will be replaced with new steel beam guiderail and end treatments. The shoulders in front of the guiderail will be paved and asphalt gutters added leading to the existing catch basins, this will reduce shoulder erosion and decrease maintenance needs around the guiderail.

Construction for the culvert replacement was awarded to VanDriel Excavating Inc. Construction is anticipated to commence in mid-June of 2025, with an estimated duration of 20 calendar days.

During construction, County Road 31 (Sharpes Creek Line) will be fully closed at the culvert location to facilitate the culvert replacement. Local traffic will be permitted on County Road 31 between County Road 15 (Londesboro Road) and Highway 8 (Huron Road), but only up to the point of closure on County Road 31. A signed detour route will be in place via Highway 8 (Huron Road), County Road 1 (Benmiller Line), and County Road 15 (Londesboro Road).
