    Gym with exercise pool

With an aging population, we need to stay active and fit. Lifting weights and pool exercise would be very beneficial to many seniors, and others of course too.

    thank you for the plan

Thanks for the preparation of the master plan . The Bayfield Flats Natural Area (T2) did not get much mention . Acquisition was by the community and donated to the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy. This is an important property as it provides rare river access and is within walking distance of the village . Note , there is no boat launch on the site. The Bannockburn Tract (T 10) is a wonderful property, but I believe that it is managed by Huron county, rather than ABCA . A highway 21 Active Transportation route would be a great addition as it would provide a link to communities north south along the lakeshore. I assume this would be similar to the 21 AT link along 21 , Grand Bend to the Pinery . The Stanley hall is used for badminton , but is too small , limiting participation through the winter. We appreciate the ability to use it , however the concrete floor is not functional for sports activities (as noted ). Its slippery and hard to fall on ! There is a need for a multi-use rec center in Bayfield. The need is there for accessible , multi-use indoor space, year round , serving all age groups. The need is most acute for activities from November through April for recreation , socialization and events . We have a primarily active seniors population , many of whom are unable , or chose not to be snowbirds. I see this increasing , not decreasing , especially with suggested growth projections. Many people are cautious about winter driving. # 21 is often closed or has difficult driving conditions for even the most enthusiastic. It’s also dark at 5 pm. Which adds to seniors reluctance to drive . I recall a number of times # 21 and Mill Road both closed for winter conditions, sometimes for several days. There is no leaving the village , but as we are a walking community , something in the village would be used. Distances to a recreation center , community facility: Goderich : 21 KM Hensall : 28 KM Zurich : 20 KM Varna : 9 KM It is not reasonable to consider that large groups of folks will get to activities out of the village during inclement weather , when the need is greatest for both exercise and socialization .
