Thank you for your interest in Huron County Library's Science programming presented by Scientists in Schools! Please fill out the questionnaire below to register!

Due to the fact that we receive limited numbers of kits we limit the activity kits to one per family (per session).

To ensure a variety of kids get a chance to participate, we allow you to choose three sessions that you will get priority access to, and for the remainder of your chosen sessions you will be put on the waiting list on a first come-first served basis. If there are available spaces for the program when we make the kits available for pick-up, we will fill those spaces from the waiting list.

The session descriptions can be found below. Corresponding dates and times can be found in the survey.

Do It Like da Vinci!

Da Vinci was an accomplished artist and skilled architect, and you can be, too. Paint to explore solubility, absorption, and surface tension. Become an inventor by taking our structure building challenge, and create a catapult. Discover the joy of combining science and art!

Ewww… that Science is Gross

Discover the science behind things that make you go...ewww! Make “snot” and sneeze it while exploring viscosity, identify various animals from their scat (i.e. poop) and learn about digestion while producing a burp in a bag. Join us on a gross but fun-filled science adventure!

Noticing Nature

Chicka-dee-dee-dee... Who was that? Play a game to discover nature sounds around us. Buzz your newly created bee around flowers to pollinate them. Investigate seeds and make a seed caterpillar that will grow over time. Notice all that nature has to offer, big and small!

Obey Newton: It’s the Law!

Sir Isaac Newton was one smart dude! Explore Newton’s Laws of Motion as you investigate how things either move or stay put, and how every action produces a reaction. Race a waterdrop to the finish line and discover the effects of gravity on your very own tumble bunny!

Ride ‘n’ Roll with Science

Welcome to the amusement park where we’ll be bumping, spinning, zipping and rolling! Discover the actions and reactions of bumper cars. Explore the forces at work when you spin. Create a zipline while investigating gravity. Design a roller coaster to meet a challenge. It’s all about the physics of riding ‘n’ rolling!

Science Meets Art!

Discover what happens when science meets art! Explore perception as you use shadows, colour, motion, and light to create art from science. You’ll make a puppet, a spinning top and a kaleidoscope, as well as design your own galaxy. “The greatest scientists are always artists as well!” (Albert Einstein)

Science Snippets

Enjoy a few snippets of science! Be a chemist and discover the difference between baking soda and powder. Create a fantastical creature while investigating dominant and recessive genes. Make a pompom launcher and explore physics. Discover aeronautics by building and testing a plane. A snippet is just the beginning!

Shoot, Score, Science & More!

Jump, shoot, roll and glide; can you find the science in sport? Take a test to discover where your dominance lies. Create a sculpture to investigate how throwing a ball affects your balance. Discover physics by engineering a better hockey puck and building a mini golf course. Join us as we shoot, score and explore the science of sport.
