The County has awarded GEMTEC Engineering the work to investigate two sections of Highway for Geotechnical review. The in field investigations for this project are to be completed by July 5th 2024 with a Technical report due back to the County in late September.
Section 1 – County Road 7 (From County Road 4 (London Road) to County Road 30 (Fordwich Line) 20km
County Road 7 within project limits is a Class 3 road with an estimated AADT of 700. This section was last rehabilitated with HL-4 Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) in 2004, with each section currently holding a PCI of 57 East of Wingham, 54 East of County Road 12 and 59 East of County Road 28. Pavement distresses on County Road 7 include moderate to severe transverse and longitudinal cracking, moderate alligator cracking, moderate joint reflection cracking and minor pavement edge cracking. County Road 7 is scheduled for paving for 2025.
Section 2 – County Road 22at County Road 86 (Amberley Road) 200m
County Road 22 within project limits is a Class 3 road with an estimated AADT of 860. This section was last rehabilitated with mill and pave hot mix patching in 2018, currently holding a PCI of 79 with this section being in far worse condition than the rest of the asset. Pavement distresses on County Road 22 at this section include moderate to severe transverse and longitudinal cracking, moderate alligator cracking, moderate joint reflection cracking and minor pavement edge cracking. Due to swampy subgrade soils, this location is experiencing differential settlement, causing dangerous driving conditions. In the past, County has attempted to repair this location with glass-grid within the asphalt as well as spray patching, however, the distresses keep re-appearing. The County is looking for a geotechnical consultant to provide recommendations for a long term solution at this location.
